Jane Wise, full-time volunteer missionary from the Miami Valley District, will be making a presentation at Parkview United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 28th (flyer attached with details). Jane is ministering in the Kasenga District of the DRC and working the with the United Methodist District Superintendent and pastors within the District on church and pastoral development, and reaching out to the people of the Kasenga district. Below is a brief description of the ministry.
Nuru Ya Mapendo is Swahili and translates “Love’s Light”, a holistic ministry to people of the District of Kasenga, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Africa. We model Jesus, who first met people’s physical needs and then ministered to them spiritually. The ministry embraces and teaches sustainable growth practices related to food and animal production in order to improve quality of life, while also ministering to the spiritual needs of the recipients. The ministry comes alongside the Kasenga District of the United Methodist Church to support and encourage pastors, to share the Good News, disciple new believers and to grow the Kingdom of God.
Jane’s ministry over the past two years has gone beyond original plans and goals. Nuru Ya Mapendo is now building churches, schools, and teaching English classes as God continues to reveal His plans for the ministry.
Jane is a member of the Church of the Cross in Kettering, Ohio. Myself and 4 other women from our Share Group at Parkview UMC, would like to help Jane reach out to individuals and churches in the Miami Valley District thru this presentation to promote awareness and possible mission support of her ministry. I know our District is aligned with the North Katenga Conference in Africa, but I believe Jane is currently the only full-time volunteer missionary from the Miami Valley District and hope that individuals or churches might feel led to support someone from our District who has answered the call to serve in the mission field.
