MIV - Lay Servant Ministry Courses Spring 2021

The Miami Valley District has 4 different online opportunities for laity to grow in your walk with Christ this Spring.  If you haven't taken a course from the Lay Servant Ministry Program, now is the time!  If you would like more information about the program, you can also contact the district office for more information at 937-869-4810. 

All sessions for each class need to be attended in order to receive a certificate for the class.

LOVING PEOPLE AND PLANET IN THE NAME OF GOD - Engaging the Local Church

Join the United Methodist Creation Justice Movement in a 5 part Workshop Series via Zoom.
February 28, March 4, 7, 11 & 14, 2021 — 7-9 pm ET
Cost: $15
This workshop will prepare you to understand creation care and climate justice in the Wesleyan Tradition; to recognize environmental concerns and solutions; to incorporate creation care into your worship; and to exercise environmental stewardship in the life of your congregation and community.  It will focus on practical approaches to greening your buildings, your grounds, your ministry, and your witness.

BASIC LAY SERVANT MINISTRY COURSE

This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship. 

Classes would be 7-9pm on February 28, March 2, March 4, March 7 and March 9, 2021.

Cost is $15.  Books purchased separately.

LIVING OUR UNITED METHODIST BELIEFS (HERITAGE)

This course will explore the special gifts of theology, witness, and organization that The United Methodist Church brings to the church universal, how we got where we are today, and how our distinctive emphases are still needed in the 21st-century church.

Classes will be held from 6:30 - 9pm on Monday, March 1, 8, 15 and 22nd.

Cost is $15.  Books purchased separately.

DISCOVERING YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS

This course helps participants understand spiritual gifts and how the church can use them to fulfill its mission and ministry. Participants will also learn what it means to be a spiritual leader and will be equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts.

This course will be held via zoom in 5 sessions on 4 days.

Session 1 - Sunday, March 14, 6-8pm

Session 2 - Wednesday, March 17, 7-9pm

Session 3 & 4 - Saturday, March 20, 10am - 2:30pm

Session 5 - Wednesday, March 24, 7-9pm

Cost is $20.  You will need to purchase one book and one will be sent to you before the class starts.
