SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:  The Christian Education Director (CE Director) is responsible for developing and maintaining a vital, effective, and safe Christian education program for children within Church of the Cross (COTC).  In addition, the CE Director assists in facilitating and improving Christian education programs for all ages within Church of the Cross United Methodist and developing special Christian education programs.  This is a part-time position requiring approximately 15 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Collaborate with the Education Committee to develop long-term goals and objectives for Sunday School and special Christian education programs.  Organize and implement all Church School classes and other educational activities.  Recruit, direct, and train volunteer teachers.  Develop and coordinate new Church School classes.  Supervise Safe Sanctuary training and assist the COTC Administrative Assistant in monitoring compliance.  Supervise Vacation Bible School (VBS), in coordination with VBS director(s).  Minister to children and their families.  Collaborate with the Youth Director concerning Youth Church School classes.  Develop special educational programs and group studies for adults.  Serve on the Church Council and the Education Committee and attend Youth Council meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Undergraduate degree and/or 2 or more years of experience in Christian ministry.  Able to articulate the Christian faith in a manner that is understandable to both adults and children and that is compatible with the doctrine of The United Methodist Church.  Have good rapport with children and enjoy working with them.  Proficient at planning, organizing, and accomplishing educational activities.  Good instructor, aware of new trends and innovations in Christian education.  Able to work independently, as well as with others.  Able to complete successfully a background check and adhere to the Safe Sanctuary Policy.
