DIRECTOR OF CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP URBANA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Position Purpose: This position plays an important role in leading the congregation to express love and adoration of God through worship arts. This position equips the department for worship through musical and artistic displays and works with the lead pastor and other staff to plan and implement all elements of congregational worship. This position helps to facilitate the continued growth and development of a spiritually enriching contemporary music ministry.

Position Reports to: Lead Pastor      Coordinates with: Lead Pastor, Praise Team, Tech Team, and other staff      Weekly Time: 15 Hours                                                             

 

Pastoral Accountabilities:

●            Foster a familial atmosphere where members feel accepted, loved, appreciated, recognized, and encouraged to grow in relationship with Jesus and one another

●            Serve as liaison between the worship team, tech team, church staff, volunteers, and the congregation

●            Establish worship department visions, goals, standards, and expectations

●            Ensure worship ministries give honor and glory to God

●            Mentor, guide, and disciple worship team

Operational Responsibilities:

●            Oversee financial operations of contemporary worship budget

●            Schedule and effectively communicate monthly to weekly praise team members

●            Serve as liaison to the tech team for the contemporary worship department

●            Reach out and recruit new persons and members for worship and/or tech team

●            Know and teach others how to be a good steward of musical equipment

●            Oversee and communicate weekly contemporary worship planning

●            Provide all necessary material to praise team and tech team for worship operations

●            Recruit guest worship artists for contemporary worship services when needed

●            Understand how to navigate and use CCLI, Planning Center, and Music Stand

Production Obligations:

●            Serve as musical director/producer for praise team for all contemporary services

●            Oversee and communicate arrangements, lyrics, charts, tracks, and service flows for contemporary worship services

●            Lead and assign praise team leadership for song arrangements for contemporary worship services

●            Hold rehearsals for the team to practice songs for contemporary worship services

Service Expectations:

●            Plan and assign all elements of the contemporary worship service with the lead pastor and other staff

●            Communicate with members of the congregation to fulfill roles in the contemporary service

●            Enter in contemporary service information onto Planning Center by the Thursday preceding the Sunday service

●            Collaborate with lead pastor and other staff on unity service elements when necessary

 

Additional Information: The position of Director of Contemporary Worship is a part time, salaried position and the salary is based upon a projected 15 hours per week. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Furthermore, it is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year. Employment at UUMC provides 2 weeks unpaid vacation, 10 paid holidays per year, and paid maternity leave up to 8 weeks. Health Insurance is not a part of the package.
