2017 Charge Conference Information

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all,” wrote the apostle Paul to the early church at Ephesus.  One.  We who are believers are one.  In United Methodist speak, we call that the Connection.

As we head into the new quadrennium in the Miami Valley, you will find us returning to that phrase: “One Body. One Spirit. One Hope.”  As we move into the fall charge/church conference season, we will live that out in a new (yet old) way.

As District Superintendent, I have invited about 20 elders in the district to join me and the Assistants to the Superintendents to preside at your local church Charge/Church Conference this fall.  As the elders gathered in the district office to prepare for these gatherings, we shared our most memorable charge conference experiences.  It is our desire, as we live into being “one body, one Spirit, one hope,” that this will be one of those memorable charge conferences for you, your lay leadership, and your congregation.

The presiding elder for your charge conference can be found in the Elder Assignment attached.  Please contact him/her as soon as possible to schedule your 2016 charge conference.

On this page, you will find the information you need to have and complete your charge conference.

For any church needing to be trained on Charge Conference paperwork and the online submission process, I will have two training times at the District Office.  Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 1pm – 3pm or Thursday, September 28, 2018 from 10am - Noon.  Bring a laptop, if you have one, and any questions you may have.  Please contact me to be added to the schedule, miamivalley [at]

As you prepare to celebrate what God is doing in your midst and to dream and plan where God will lead you in the new year, know that you continue in our prayers.  If you have any questions or concerns about your upcoming charge conference, please feel free to contact me, jroper [at] or 937-529-2321, or Assistant to the Superintendent, Rev. Wendy Lybarger, wlybarger [at] or 937-529-2323.  Questions regarding entry of the forms can be directed to the Miami Valley Office Administrator, Terri McClain, miamivalley [at] or 937-529-2320.

Blessings for the journey,
